Casually Crafting ‘New Year New Techniques’ Blog Hop…

Hello & welcome back to the Casually Crafting Blog Hop where this months theme is ‘New Year – New Techniques’. I have been wracking my brains trying to think of a good casual technique to share with you all, and I hope I have found it. In fact I loved the effect so much I actually made a card earlier in the week with the same technique!

The Casually Crafting Design Team are a group of independent Stampin’ Up! demonstrators that want to share our take on casual crafting with you all. We will be sharing what we love every 3rd Friday of each month. Make sure you check out the rest of the Design Team’s creative projects from the photo links at the end of this post.

New Year – New Techniques

Here at the Casual Crafters, we try to keep things from being overly complicated, so I want to share a technique with you that requires just a few tools and one that can be used over and over again to produce really great results that all look so different depending on which colours you use. My technique is ink blending through a stencil, though here I am actually going to make my own stencil too – a double technique for you!

You can see how I created the background by watching the video below. Firstly I cut some Whisper White card using the largest die, to create a stencil, and then I used the fabulous blending brushes with Mint Macaron, Just Jade and Shaded Spruce to create soft tonal changes in the background.

I had the new Gilded Leafing Flakes out on my desk as I was creating this project, so I couldn’t help but add some! I used Tombow Multi-purpose liquid glue and just smeared some onto my project with my finger. It is a bit messy but it is a fun technique to try. The glue has a fantastic quality that it stays tacky when it is dry. Sometimes this isn’t great but it is just perfect for using with the flakes!

Just leave it to dry for a few minutes and then cover with the Gilded Leafing Flakes before brushing off the excess, how beautiful does it look.

I stamped three of the larger images from the stamp set and coloured them in with my Stampin’ Blends, a mix of Blackberry Bliss, Highland Heather, Purple Posy and Mint Macaron. Not the quickest of projects but I think it is totally worth the effort. I layered them on top of a strip of ribbon, added some greenery cut from Shaded Spruce card, a sentiment from the stamp set and some Just Jade Flowers for Every Season gems.

I wanted to share the other project that I made, very similar to this one, using the same background, the same technique for the Gilded Leafing and the same stamps and dies, the Simply Succulents bundle – just look at that shine.

  1. Love this project Heather and those blending brushes are amazing. Really like how you’ve applied the gilded leafing as well. Need to give that a go. TFS
